E-commerce: a present-day reality.
Until a few years ago, commerce via the internet was seen as unsafe. Things have changed.
No one is surprised any more nowadays when we talk about E-commerce, we hear about it at the office, at the gym, and even in our homes, and almost certainly all of us use it in our daily lives. This is because this system is no longer the future, but the present of commercial transactions.
Commerce via the internet, until a few years ago, was seen as a complex system, where any company could defraud consumers, due to the little security that existing in the confidentiality of users’ data.
Today, things have changed. A study carried out by Visa, which was handled by América Economía Intelligence, reported that in Latin America electronic commerce remains an effective option despite the environment of global financial crisis. That document reports that business-to-consumer electronic commerce (B2C) grew 39.2 percent during 2009, reaching 21.775 billion dollars in this region.
Growth of 27% is expected for this year, which would allow 2010 to close with 28 billion dollars in B2C (business to consumer).
This growth, unlike what happened in other economic areas during this period, is explained by the fact that many of the factors that stimulate electronic commerce continue to develop, such as computer penetration and broadband connections, which reached annual growth rates of 20% and 15% respectively.
